  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Spay issue

Stripes is due to be spayed at some point this year, is it likely to be more risky because of her knackered legs and spine? :? :(

I don't know if it'd be riskier but a huge number of unspayed does get all sorts of nasty cancers.I suppose you'll have to weigh up the risks - maybe you could discuss it with your vet :D

My main concern would be if she can`t use her back legs would she drag her belly along the floor & possibly make the scar line sore?

Have you tried pm`ing jaypot, they`ll know alot more about this kind of problem.

Gem, I wouldn't spay her at all - not unless she regains the full mobility back. I have had to make this choice a lot of times and it's hard to do but the chances of actually losing them under a GA due to the way they are, and the chances of Uterine Cancer are ones that you have to consider.
I find that buns with spinal problems don't have as long a life span as those who haven't got spinal problems:cry: but they can have a wonderful life just the same:D
I personally wouldn't spay her - she's best left as she is as you don't really know what the problem with her spine is - and more problems could occur because of the spay:?
