Atticus, gut stasis

Yes that's the place! My Vet said they're very expensive but good? Did you find that the case? [emoji38]

I hope it doesn't come to that tbh, not sure what Atticus will think of the tube [emoji38]

Had a bit of a mishap with his ear catheter, I had to trim it down, and added some more tape. I tested it still works, no leaks so I think we got away with it this time [emoji849] now he looks even sillier [emoji38]

Yeah they are expensive. It was £175 for a consultation, but they're for 45 minutes and they go through absolutely everything in forensic detail. On the other hand my emergency vet charges £150 for a consult and there's no guarantee you'll see someone who knows anything about bunnies!

I have the dubious honour of saying I've met all four exotic specialists there and they are all very nice, very competent and they'll take good care of Atticus if you do end up going there. Having said that, I hope you don't end up having to go all that way. I was going to suggest getting the Overground to Camden Road as it's less stressful than the tube but annoyingly that part of the line is closed for works!

Sending trillions of vibes for Atticus, I hope he passes a few more poos again soon,

Ah right, tbh idc about the money I just want what's best for him, yea I saw that, would've been quickest too [emoji38]

Me too, no more yet unfortunately :(

Thanks, no more of those weird poops :(

Could his blood glucose be low yet he still has a blockage? Idk if anyone knows :( xx

I'm sorry that any time I try & answer your questions its guesswork - this is no different. However there is a lot of credibility to blood glucose tests as a reliable indicator / likelihood of blockage & sure that would all fall flat if that were the case. Really interested in others more educated thoughts though. Whats his latest BG?

Yea I know, I'm just so confused, like if there's no blockage, gas, etc and I'm syringe feeding... And there's poop on its way to the exit... Why no poop?

Last was at 5pm - 6.4

Which is worryingly low if you ask me... Like it's normal.. But normal for him has been like 8/9 just because going to the vets is stressful :/

BTW I spoke to my vet earlier the machine is the alphatrak 2 for cats and dogs (yes it's accurate for buns, Idk what that vet last night was talking about [emoji38]) she said you can get a starter kit which comes with everything you need to do it at home, including the little needles to get the drop of blood from the ear vein. I might get one :)

Yea he's still uncomfortable but we've had a few cuddles and he's got warm ears now, I tried to get him to hop around a bit too.

Still no poop :( I just wish there was more I could do for him :( thanks xx

He needs a nail clip but now is so not the time [emoji38]

Awwww this looks like an improvement! I just listened to a 1.2 hour long webanar by Molly Varga on stasis which was interesting. I'm qualified now so I'm on me round Atticus. Lots of vibes still being sent xxx

Okay so he's produced these... Anyone know why they'd look like this? I know he's not normal so I wasn't necessarily expecting small dark poops.. But also I have no idea why they'd come out like this :(

All I can say is yay for poop  I know poop is often odd during and just after stasis so it could be due to his gut restarting or the meds?

I'm inclined to agree, stasis poops do have a tendency to come out in weird shapes and sizes. Also looks to me the normal poops have gotten mixed in with unformed caecals. I've found that when my buns have had severe stasis they'll produce splats at some point.

Anyway, hurrah for poops!

I hope you manage to get a good night's sleep tonight. You've had a rotten week and I can't imagine you've had much rest. I bet you're running on fumes at the moment!

Good work Gracie. You too aticus.
Those poos are not uncommon for a bunny recovering from stasis. I have seen worse.
His glucose improved since yesterday's higher number, he looks better to 3 ru friends, and he is possing fecal material again.
Keep up the good work.
Sending you and your bunny more positive vibes.

Thanks both, I'm gunna be up every 2 hours to check on him, but I'm gunna go to bed now.

So I got a packet of coriander from the fridge sat down near him.. Out of nowhere he jumped onto my lap and started begging... I honestly could've cried, then he started shovelling in the herbs, had a few more of different types too, but then hopped into his cage and laid uncomfortably in his litter tray and looked all sad and subdued again :( Idk if that's a good or bad thing it's kinda both I guess... But for about 2 minutes I had Atticus back [emoji7] he's now the same as before uncomfortably shifting around, and his ears are chilly again. My boyfriend is just doing snuggle safe now for him.

Honestly seemed like he really wanted to try though

I think it's positive that he's shown an interest in food again. IME, the problem with severe stasis is that the recovery can be a bit up and down. I remember when Fudgie had her really bad episode. I'd been syringe feeding her for a couple of days and she'd shown zero interest in food. On the third evening I was giving Snoopy a treat. She heard the bag rustle, then suddenly jumped up, ran over and begged for one too. She took it but didn't actually eat it. Nevertheless it still felt like a step forward as this was the first time she had shown any enthusiasm for food in a while. After that it still took a few more days before she started to eat for herself again.

I've got everything crossed that Atticus will do a few more poos overnight and that he starts to feel more comfortable again.
