  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Belgian hare sitting up strangely...putting paws on his back feet...

Thankyou everyone....I have learnt that if your rabbit is unwell, then move your little friend ......your rabbit to your room or close by...I have made some changes to my room...cables, unplug things etc....and there are bits of hay on the rugs....but I don't care....Thomas always sits close to me....purring away....nudging....and so much better since I moved him to my room......

I am sure you are both better off for being together

Update...I have been washing his ear with the salt water and then the cream. [ 10 days]..it looks like it is healing well so for the past few days I have only used the warm salt water...it looks like that when the scab falls off he may have a hole or part of his ear missing..This was caused by the iv drip at the vet hospital which is not my first choice....but was a weekend.....!..I have also noticed that his eyes seem a little bulgy at times and he often has his third eye lid showing....but...this goes in as soon as I am next to him for a cuddle or a nudge...He is still in my room but often sits outside the lounge where his bed etc was....I will slowly move him back to that next week as he is so much better.....He is having a check up with Mr Wildgoose at Midland vets on monday, excellent vet,....so will see what he thinks....Thomas is quite territorial so maybe the eye is something to do with that as he knows he is not in HIS room at present....and it's taken a while to establish some boundaries as if not he will take over my room....!!...

I am pleased that Thomas is much better and trying to take over  I had to smile - Mr Wildgoose

Good on you Thomas - you know what you want! I know that bulging eye look ..
I am glad you can reassure him and be his friend :D

Good luck for Monday!!

Thankyou...does the bulging eyes mean that he wants extra attention and cuddles....?....as when he gets all that the eyes go back to normal.....anyway his ear healed up well and the scab just flew off as he was running about and .....he now has part of his ear missing....!!...he doesn't seem concerned about it...just looks a bit odd....his check up for the ear was already booked so we will still go.....Lots of unwell and poorly rabbits at the moment....am hoping they all get well...

I find the eyes bulge sometimes when they are stressed, and then stop when they become relaxed. So yes, you are probably right :D
