  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Urinary infection - update - Propalin?

I don't come on here anymore, but just a quick note to add, propalin is the cheap version of urilin, many find this the better one but vets will order propalin as its cheap and they make far more on it!
Just thought it may help for future reference as I'm a veterinary pharmacist and order this kind if stuff. In the mean time I hope your bunny stays comfy X

Willowsmum, thank you for this, it's very interesting. I thought the active ingredient in both was the same, i.e. phenylpropanolamine. Is that not the case, or is it a questions of the strength?

Thank you, I will bear this in mind to maybe try again.

AFAIK Propalin and Urilin contain the same active ingredient- ie Phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride

There is Incurin, which has the active ingredient Estriol which is a short-acting natural oestrogen (hormone)

Personally I would be uneasy about a Doe in my care having this though, due to the 'unwanted' oestrogenic effects

Willowsmum has not replied, but according to my vet, who prescribed Propalin, the ingredients are the same - as I detailed in my post above: phenylpropanolamine

I understand the strength varies, but I know of no other active ingredients in there :D
