Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Third eyelid showing

I'm probably being paranoid with having Fluff and his thymoma, but is it normal to see a tiny bit of the third eyelid when a bun puts their head down to eat, and for it to disappear when they put their head up?

Not sure about this one but didn't want to read and run!I'm sure someone who has experience with this will be able to answer this for you :)

When Homer had his thymoma the third eyelid showing when he put his head down was the first sign that I had about the thymoma. He had not shown any previous signs.

You could raise Fluff's bowl for him to help reduce any pressure.

I do see it sometimes with Rambo!! However, I think it is probably "normal" for him as he can be keen and greedy

Sending Fluff lots of vibes x

Thanks for the replies. This isn't Fluff, but thank you for remembering about him. I should have mentioned that and will edit the title.

Surely I can't have 2 with a thymoma. I'm hoping that this is something that isn't anything, if you follow? Hopefully he is just like Rambo and I'm worrying about nothing.

I wouldn't be worried about it. But I've got a girl with a third eyelid that's always visible and the vet isn't concerned

Ah, then it is probably nothing to worry about. I thought you were talking about Fluff.

With Homer the eyes bulged and the 3rd eyelid showed when he put his head down which is why I am not worried when I do see the odd occasion with other buns.

I think I am more conscious so do look at these things and probably notice more as I too am paranoid (it is only when Rambo is excited and it is the odd time, general eating he is fine). To be honest, I noticed that Katy's did it too on the odd occasion but as I say, once you have seen a bun with thymoma then you do become more aware of some things which you would normally not notice.
