Would this hutch be okay?

Hi, to me, though I might be wrong, it looks very small I am afraid.

Someone will be along soon, I am sure with some suggestions :)

Thanks for the quick reply

The dimensions of the hutch above are:

Overall: W 1.52m x D 1.22m x H 1.12m
Hutch: W 1.52m x D 0.40m x H 0.67m
Run: W 1.52m x D 0.83m x H 0.49m

I also was looking at this one

I guess I'll have to look elsewhere then as I want the best hutch I can find & many I've seen are a lot smaller. Thanks though, really appreciated :) x

Both of those are unfortunately too small. Minimum requirements are 6 x 2 x 2 hutch with 6 or 8 ft x 4 x 2 run. An 8ft run is recommended now, but it used to be 6ft. 8ft is much better, and they love the extra space.

The first one has a hutch of just under 5ft, with a depth of 1.3ft and a height of 2ft. The run is only just under 5ft, by just under 3ft so again too small sadly :( The second one is also not suitable as although it's 6ft, there is only a very small sheltered area and the run is much too small. Some people have made these into a hutch by boarding up every side with wood, and then attaching a run - but in most of these cases someone already had bought the coop and they were trying to make the best of their situation. It's much easier and cheaper to get a hutch from the start to be honest! In addition, the wood on those brands of hutches tends to be thin, cheap and bad quality and they just don't last through bad weather. There are a few good websites/sellers which sell good quality hutches in good sizes, and they'll last well.

Happy hutch do a 6 x 2 x 2 hutch with a 6 x 4 x 2 run underneath. You can buy it on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350758325427?_trksid=p2055120.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT) or via their website (http://www.happyhutch.co.uk/rabbit-hutches-runs/sykes-rabbit-hutch-run-combo-detail). You can buy an extension for £99 to extend the 6 x 4 run into a 10 x 4 run which would be a fantastic size (http://www.happyhutch.co.uk/rabbit-hutches-runs/sykes-rabbit-hutch-combo-run-extension-detail), and that would be £269. You can always go for the 6 x 4 initially and extend it in a few months if money is tight.

You can get 6 x 2 x 2 with 6 x 6 x 2 run for £200 (http://www.happyhutch.co.uk/rabbit-hutches-runs/sykes-rabbit-hutch-run-combo-detail).

They also do a hutch/run all on one level.. 6 x 2 x 2 with a 6 x 4 x 2 run is £195. http://www.happyhutch.co.uk/rabbit-hutches-runs/rabbit-hutch-run-in-front-detail

Boyles pet housing (Daniel on this forum) do some excellent sized enclosures too: http://www.boylespethousing.co.uk/rabbit-housing.html

The Hutch Man is also a newer seller but he does some good size pieces too.

All of the ones I mentioned should last a good 10 years with proper care and maintenance, whereas the cheaper ones only last a year or two really. It's false economy. Definitely worth spending out more initially. You can further protect the hutch by painting with cuprinol (or similar) and re-painting once a year. Lots of people (me included) get an offcut of lino flooring and lay it on the hutch floor, then seal around the edges with silicone bath sealant. This protects the floor from wetness and means it's soo much easier to keep clean. If the lino gets grubby you just rip it up and re-lay, rather than having to buy a whole new hutch or having to patch things up etc!

I have a 6ft by 2ft by 2ft Happy Hutch for 2 medium to small sized buns and have been very pleased with it.

It's tough looking online as often there isn't a lot of scale in the pictures. I think that first looks big but once you saw it in person (and with a couple of bunnies in) it would seem much smaller.

Another option to look at is a wooden children's place house. They are usually 4'-5' square so you get a good amount of floor space for about £120. That would be over double the space of that hutch. You can often get them second hand too!

Thanks so much for all the helpful & great ideas :)

I do like this one I must say what yaretzi linked me to (thanks so much for that) I'd get the one for £200 which is 6ft x 2ft x 2ft hutch with a 6ft x 6ft run.

Just making sure I get the best for when I get my bunnies sometime this year. Everyone on here have been very very helpful so far & I really do appreciate it :)

The 6ft happy hutch and 6 x 6 run would be perfect.

I have one and love it - best bit is they also sell an extension so if you ever fancy more space you can just add to it. I bought mine before they did 6 x 6 so have the 6 x 4 with extension making 6 x 8.

That's fantastic, it's so good to see an owner who forward plans and wants the best for their bunny  I'm sure your bunnies will be chuffed to bits with that setup, and it should pass a rescue homecheck easily. A 8 x 4 run gives 44 square foot but a 6 x 6 run gives a total of 48 square foot which is even better!

As Amy said, the extension is a fantastic option for the future. You'll probably find you start itching to upgrade their accommodation fairly soon if you're anything like me :oops:

Sorry if that picture is ginormous. It looks it to me but just spent the best part of 2 hours trying to work out photobucket and so far I've managed to transfer that picture, one of Churchill sticking 2 fingers up, one of Johnny Cash sticking 2 fingers up (i have no idea why I have those pictures.) and me holding a leaf!
Anyway if it can be viewed properly that is Hoppity's hutch, her run is narrow at hutch but goes wider at end. She has full run of garden few hours every day unless it's raining for the whole day. Luckily I'm a nighthawk so there's many a night I put lights on and she and I sit outside at midnight/1am. I have been given details of foster carers who when I contact them will come out to see hutch and garden to let me know if it's suitable for Hoppity to get a pal and if it's not what I have to do so she can.

Photobucket can be an :censored: sometimes :lol:what are the dimensions of your hutch and run? I bet Hoppity will love having a pal :thumb: when I adopted Dandy and Beano from the RSPCA I emailed them pics of their set up and told them the dimensions, so they could have a look before the homecheck to see if anything needed changing.

Please don't buy one from the hutch company, they promise 48 hour delivery, but mine took 2 month, numerous phone calls and nothing but stress. There are people on here still waiting for their hutch or refund. I understand the hutch man who advertises on here does amazing hutches, at the correct size.

It's 5' 8" high, 2' 6" depth and 4' across. The ground level is 3'5" depth, this level is also tall enough for her to stand upright in and we have a hanging basket filled with hay hanging in there, parsley bell, wicker ball and filled kitchen roll centre thingys.

She needs a pal but taken a wee while for me to confirm ownership. I have 2 breaks booked in but I'll be back to normal routine for mid July and 'Find Hoppity a Pal' mission starts! It's also been a huge learning curve for me re' rabbits but we're getting there together and I'm lucky that Hoppity is a fantastic rabbit.
