Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Worried about my bun

Woodybunny

New Kit
Hi all. Woody is a house rabbit, he has a little house under the stairs but has free run of the house. I’m a bit worried about him because for the last couple of days he has seemed a little lethargic and just not his usual self. It is very hot at the moment so maybe he’s just feeling tired in the heat. Is there anything I should be looking out for as warning signs of illnesses or just anything people would suggest to try?
Thanks

Hi, yes the hot weather can make bunnies lethargic. Is Woody eating, pooping and weeing as normal ? those are the important things to check for, if he's not, then it might be a trip to the vets is in order to get him checked over. Not sure where you are, but if its in the UK, think its going to go cooler in the next few days, so hopefully Woody will pick up again. Any doubts though, best get him checked out, you know your bunny best. Let us know how he goes on.

Thank you so much for the advice. Yeah he’s still eating, drinking a pooing so I will just keep an eye on him over the next day or so. Thanks for the reassurance

I agree with Pets Mum. You know Woody - so you'll know any changes in body language. If you have a fan, try and place it in a position where Woody can benefit from the air flow. Some rabbit owners freeze a bottle of water and lie that next to Woody (put it in a towel to prevent cold burns). If Woody is pooping and eating ok, and especially drinking plenty, then these are all good strongpositive signs but, as always, if ever in any doubt, a vet trip is essential just for peace of mind.
The change in weather should help Woody become a bit more active.

Some rabbits like to sit on tiles if you have one around as they are cooling. If he's still the same when it's not as hot I would definitely go to the vets. Just keep an eye on his drinking, eating and pooping!
