I am a member of Rabbits United uk and one of our members who lives in America informs us that a rescue called St Augustines on Florida East Coast is closing and the 2 rabbits they have there will have to be put to sleep if no one can rehome before 31st October 08. This is so sad and clearly no-one in uk can help so I wondered if you might be able check it out please and do something for them, even if not able to get them yourselves?-Sue

There is 2 rabbits at the St. Augustine humane society that is closing and they (along with all the cats and dogs not yet adopted) will be put to sleep on Oct 31st. I thought it would be worth a try to post a topic on here to see if anyone could adopt them. So if you could post a topic on that in the Rabbits in need section that would be great.

All I know about the rabbits is that one is big (weighs about 10 pounds) and white. The other black and weighs about 5 pounds. I have a pic of each of them. They are said to be very sweet, especially the black one.

I think I have already written to them, I sent out about a 100 e-mails on Monday, just been blasting them out, but it wont hurt to send them again.

I have an update, piggies are sorted whoop whoop, but buns are still there :(
We do not have any more guinea pigs and only have two rabbits left. One of my volunteers is working to place them with a rescue group. Let me know what you come up with and thanks so much for your help!!

Ugh. why does everyone deny its closing. ive seen it on the news and everything. Here's a article on it http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=120692&catid=3

They might not all be PTS. i found this http://staugustine.com/stories/100908/news_1009_034.shtml
Humane Society Director Cindy Bishop is working to adopt out the nearly 200 animals at the shelter. She said she plans to call rescue groups in the area, and she is researching the possibility of transporting animals to Humane Societies in surrounding counties.

This may be able to help? http://www.operationroger.rescuegroups.org/

My friend does not know anyone personally but will ask all her friends to pass on the message. Just thinking that this will be like "Tree" with loads and loads of branches!!!

Oct 31st is only 3 days off.. I sure hope that they don't put any to sleep :(

I have sent an e-mail tonight to the Florida Humane Society at St Augutines asking them directly if their rescue is closing and what will happen to the rabbits-Sue:wave:

I have had no reply-however many rescues in the area have been alerted and bearing in mind this was on American news i hope if the info is correct that the animals were all safely rehomed-though as i said one rescue seems to think they are not closing. I think we have done all we can, so lets be positive-Sue:wave:
