Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Update: RIP Romeo <3

I've attached photos to this message. They just seem to keep appearing. They don't look like mites to me as Phoebe had mites before (early in 2015 so a long time ago and she was fully treated). The vet mentioned mites but not sure he had a clue to be honest, first time I'd seen him before and in my opinion he's not very thorough or rabbit savvy. he said possible parasite but I am still not convinced. Anyways here's the photos and these were taken a couple days ago, he has bigger ones now on top of his back.

Could be flea bite dermatitis of folliculitis. But that is only guessing and certainly not a 'diagnosis'. What is the name of the treatment he is receiving ?

No idea about the skin care he was given, it was just a drop at back of neck, presuming for mites as what he discussed and what my last rabbit had for it though she had it regularly and he's on panacur. I'm going to take him back this week some point with someone I see regularly.

They look quite severe, poor thing!

I mentioned fleas in my earlier post - has the vet excluded them from the diagnosis? Although to be honest they look rather too severe for that.

You could mention to the vet what Joey&Boo suggested (which is something one of my rabbits suffered from also) .. sebaceous adenitis. If your vet doesn't know what they are, now you have good photos, they could send them off to a specialist for them to comment on, without the need for you to visit another vet ...

He didn't even mention fleas and now you have mentioned it, I am quite surprised he didn't to be honest.

Yeah I will mention that to them and see what they say. Yeah very true. I think the guy I saw at the vet just wasn't very good as usually they are excellent and do tests on spot so I'm going to go back for second opinion with my usual two people I see.

Sounds like a good plan of action xx

I know we shouldn't have to go to our vets with loads of suggestions of our own, as that's what we pay them for, but in your case it may be as well to flag up a few things talked about on here and see what they say ..

Good luck xx

Hello everyone. I have an update. I took him to my usual vet whose very rabbit savvy and an incredible vet. We were in there for 30 minutes! Poor people waiting. Haha but yeah anyways she said theres absolutely no injury to his spine at all, he hasn't been hurt at all. No broken bones, nothing hes perfectly fine however she noticed his placidness, how still he is etc which hes been this way since 8 weeks, she then noticed he does not respond to touch.. So she did lots of tests.. it turns out Romeo has no touch or pain response in his spine and body, he only has response on his feet, legs (which is why hes still able to live his life happily) and ears. But everywhere else he has no response to pain or touch. She used various tests to confirm this. She then said this indicates neurological and would be linked to seizures too. She said its very rare and she's never had a rabbit with no pain or touch response or who has been experiencing the episodes he does. She was so thorough, she showed me fully that he has no response to touch, she did all these things to show and confirm it. She told me this is the first time she has dealt with a bunny like this. She said the scabs are most likely caused from him being irritated by something and hurting himself because he can't feel pain.. As he can't feel pain he wouldn't know when to stop scratching. He has to go to hospital for bloods to make sure organs functioning correctly but told me further tests would most likely lead to no result as she said there won't be anything they can do.. She said as he's healthy and happy.. in between episodes and can't feel pain she says he's living a happy life and she won't put him on medication unless it worsened because it would most likely worsen his condition causing his life to not be as happy as it is now. She told me however and very honestly, she said be prepared for him not to live a full life, she doesn't think his life expectancy is long. That is upsetting and of course I hope she is wrong.. However if this is the case.. All I wish and hope for is he is with us at least a minimum of 2 years and all I care about is he has a happy life.. I'd rather he had a happy pain free life that was short.. then a long life in pain. Thanks all for your support xx

I completely agree with that sentiment. I am glad that you were able to see a Rabbit Savvy Vet, although I am of course sorry to hear that your Rabbit probably has a neurological problem.

I hope he can continue being happy enough within himself for as long as possible and that his blood test results will be OK x

Thank you very much. I hope so too. I just have to keep an eye on him and give him the happiest life I can possible x

That is an amazing update Rebecca :)

I hope he manages to have a wonderful happy life with you, for as long as it lasts.

An animal measures life in terms of quality and not quantity, so he seems to have found his ideal guardian in you

Bless you both, and may he have a lovely time and enjoy every moment" xx

My beautiful little angel passed away today. Today I said goodbye, today he went to the rainbow bridge, no words can describe the heart break I'm feeling. Some will say he's just a rabbit, he was my beautiful baby and I can't stop breaking my heart, I cried at the vets when I took him in to be cremated, I am crying now, I kept having panic attacks I'm still crying. Why did he have to go so soon, I only got 7 months with my angel. Goodbye my beautiful furry friend :'( </3
