Hello everyone. This is also my introduction..
I have two rabbits. One is a blue/gray dwarf/minirex that I recused from Petland 6.5 years ago. He is blind in one eye from birth and has servere malacusion. My other one is an albino notreallysurekindalop rabbit which I got out of the paper 7 years ago. These two are my babies! =] Both male. Neither are fixed so they are caged and let out both seperately. they are indoors.
So, here is my problem. My albino, which has never had health problems, is now sick. Well, kinda. Last summer he developed redness on the bottem of his feet. I assumed this was sore hocks. Which I don't know how. I always use carefresh and carpet. But then an abcess came and it looked infected and scared me. So, we called the vet and my normal one was not in. So, my mom took him anyways. The lady removed the abcess, but just ripping it off. And he bleed and then had to have it wrapped. She didn't give me any medicine or anything. The actually spot healed up slighty but moved onto the side of his leg. Like spread out. So, I took him on a day my regular vet was there. He gave me some cream. We tried this and he chew the wound. Made it a big hole. So, then he was put out and had his skin streched and stiched and wrapped. Two weeks later the stiches were removed and the skin just flapped back and didn't seal at all. So, then it was cultured for pasterella. Negitave. Then sent out for more testing. He had a staff infection. Now he is on antibotics. It's been about a month. And nothing new has happened. The vet said the infection is gone and it's now bleeding like a real wound. It was dead skin in the past. But it's still not grasping and sealing together. So, today I was told to drive to see a speacialist and get an opinion. His only other one was to remove the leg. But he said the shock on a rabbit could kill him.
So, thats my story. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or anything? Cost is not a problem here. And putting him down is not even an opinion. He is totally healthy otherwise and has nooo problem dragging and flipping that cast around! He has been so strong! I have an appointment to the rabbit dr Thursday. And it's about an hour and a half drive.
Please give us your hope and support or suggestions!!
