Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Snuffles? What treatment? Help :-( VIDEO ADDED

What biscandmatt1 and GrahamL said.

Nebulisation just with saline solution is amazing. A great decongestant.

i started rambling last night and forgot to say what i was going to about the c+s test! whilst you don't always get a result, it's a good time for the nose to be checked and all that area to see if there is anything stuck there. and also, there is sometimes a build up of mucus at the back of the nose which can then be drained. matt had this done twice and it did make a difference and kind of gave him a head start in clearing it. also, this is a good time to flush the tear ducts and see if they are clear aswell.

also with nebulising, it put the medication right where it's needed and kind of punches holes in any mucus which then thins it and drains it more easily.

eta: also, even just a saline solution would be fine. there is always ways to mix medications and nebuliser different salines if things did get worse. i really feel for you because it's so upsetting and i cried sooooo much and never thought we would get matt stable. but we have so deep breaths! :thumb: xxx

Thanks, I am armed with info now and feel so much better :D I would consider myself an experienced rabbit owner but think I was feeling out of my depth with this, didn't know where to go from here and generally getting fustrated the meds weren't working as quick as I'd expected. But we will perserve. I now realise it's a long haul. Thanks again, you've put my mind at rest  I'll continue with the meds for the next couple of weeks then pose all these questions to my vet at his next visit.

Hiya,

We were in a very similar position with Evie. When we first got her at about 12 weeks old she had snuffles (sneezing and discharge). We were given septrin and although it stopped the symptoms from getting worse it just kept them stable. After a lot of internet research, we began to put echinecea in her water along with a few drops of a rabbit vitamin solution and we sprinkled the contents of a red raspberry leaf table on her food. The symptoms were soon eradicated and to this day we still use all of these things to keep it at bay. I can't guarantee that it will work for your bun but it's worth giving it a try
