Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Snuffle bun/Tiasil ?

Lea-Anne

Warren Veteran
Vince has suffered from snuffles since we got him at 8 weeks. He had green gunk coming out of his nose then! A year on and we've exhausted most things: baytril, septrin, metacam, tear duct flushing, steaming, echincaea ( sp?) , so many things.

My vet reckons he now has longterm nasal damage from having snuffles at an early age/ so badly.

Discharge recently has been white but thin with several bouts of coughing/sneezing fits a day (although rarely anything comes out) .

Someone on the snuffle bunny thread suggested antibiotic eye drops.

We have been on Tiasil since Friday and wow! The difference is amazing! On average since Friday he has sneezed twice a day, only briefly and with no coughing and no discharge at all apart from the first day ( Fri night) when a lot came out straight away!

Could eye drops be a long-term solution? Could it be the antibiotic helping or just the saline flushing through regularly??? I have no idea and would be grateful for any suggestions/ advice / experience of similar ?

I will be elated if we can get him off abx and eye drops will be all he needs!!!! :)

Pleased to hear you may have found something to help bunny. Did the vet prescribe them for you?

Yes they are veterinary and antibiotic.

I will call my vet in a week or two when have finished the full course but just wondered if anyone on here could tell if :

He will be able to have eye drops long term etc x
