  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Should we have the operation done?

I hope the op goes well. Remember no news is good news. That's what my vet told me when Emily had a major op! ;)

Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and wishes.

Unfortunately our poor little guy stopped eating again over night, but, we got a call from the vet this morning saying he was going to go ahead with the op right away but when he got off the phone he went to mopsy and he couldn't stand up anymore, was falling over and getting really distressed and was really really cold even in the ICU tank. They called me to come in and they held him and cuddled him till we got there then we had lots of hugs and got him calm and settled on me and then made the decision to let him go to sleep, he was just too poorly and scared to hope to get better. He normally does grumpy when he is ill, I've never seen him do scared.

My son told him to go up to heaven and go nibble God's work like he did to mine and to bump into the angels if they didn't move out of his way so he had a good giggle about that and then a good cry when we got home.

Thanks again for all the good wishes, I really appreciate it especially when I only just came on here. Non-bunny people don't quite understand how upsetting it is when your fat furball gets ill. :)

So sorry to hear that. He was clearly a very much loved bun and you were prepared to do whatever you could to help him.

That's such a sweet thing your son said - bunnies chewing at stuff in heaven!

:( I think you made the right decision. It sounds like he had given up and just wanted to pass away. You did the best thing for him. I'm so sorry you had to go through this but you gave him the best while he was with you. *hugs*
