  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Should we have the operation done?

Thank you so so much everyone, can't tell you what all your messages mean to me.

Tonight we all tramped out into a field in the pouring rain so my son could send a letter up to heaven attached to a couple of helium balloons and had us all laughing because his letter was full of advice for God on how to look after Mopsy (including a lovely little line warning him to make sure he puts his shoes away because Mummy gets really really cross when the rabbit eats them!). I'm sad he's gone but glad at the same time that we managed to give him 18 months of mischief with us when he had been marked to be put down when we managed to get him.

The other silver lining is that the vet suggested we look at rabbit fostering when we are a bit more settled again, my parents used to do it when I was a kid but we had hundreds of critters, I didn't know rescue centres let you just have one or two at a time now so I rang a local sanctuary this afternoon and they have taken my details as it is something they are going to start doing in the next few weeks and we got a memorial place booked for Mopsy at the sanctuary too.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your idea about the plaque at the sanctuary sounds lovely. xxx
