Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

So...Since yesterday we have an issue. He is on gut medicine, antibiotics, pain meds. His left lung wing did not sound clear yesterday. And I'm worried to death. Am I seeing it right. Is this problem with esophaghus? He did pee a little, he pooped a bit yesterday and today. I'm force feeding (gently). He wil not drink, or eat anything other then dry pellets.

Damn hollidays.

I am not knowledgeable about this. But you have to take it to the vet very urgently. You should look at the veterinarian on duty. I'm so sorry for your rabbit. I hope he will get better.

By the way, question the veterinarian who prescribes medicine and sends you home. I think it's a serious and emergency situation.

That was emergency vet on friday, he is not specialised for buns, but knows something about them. No specilised vet works till monday morning...I'm aware of how bad situation is. I can't do anything till monday morning. Sadly. I just hate when things go wrong at the week end or national hollidays like today and tomorrow is. If it was usual saturday I could get him to specialised vet. I do give him critical care and some water by syrange. Gently and slowly. He breaths better now.

I'm so sorry he is poorly & at the weekend too.I can appreciate you will be really stressed. Good to hear his breathing is a little better. No advice as I really don't have any to give but sending lots of vibes for you both

I will pray for you and your rabbit. Allah help you. Is there no animal hospital in the country? Animal hospitals are always open

I am sorry your bunny is ill. I often am in the same situation with no rabbit vets available in emergency or weekends so I can understand your situation.
To me it looks like a hiccup or a cough, though I am no expert.
You say he is not drinking which may be why he did not pee much. Will he eat greens or allow you to syringe water gently? If not, you may need to take to emergency vet because even non-bunny vets can give fluids and run tests (did your bunny have x-ray yesterday) to share with your regular vet on monday.
Antibotics take a couple days to begin working. If your bunny started antibiotic yesterday it may be too soon to see results.
As long as your bunny is eating enough to poo,you may be able to reduce syringe feeds to reduce stress.

Sending positive vibes to you both.

I'm sorry he's ill. Could he be coughing? Bigwig did something slightly similar when she had her lung problem, and the exotic specialist said most often when rabbits cough it's silent so often goes unrecognised as coughing.

If I'm understanding the situation correctly, I don't think it'll be that there are no animal hospitals, just that most vets while meaning well, don't know that much about rabbits. I expect Anja Sanja would end up with the same vet who saw her bunny recently. You've also got to factor in other things that stress rabbits like travel & giving the meds a chance to work

I'm sorry that Brko is unwell when you cannot get to an exotics vet. Sadly it's the same in many parts of the UK as well that the out of hours service has no rabbit savvy vet on duty.

I'm glad that you've noticed some improvement in his breathing and hopefully the antibiotics will start to work soon. I've no useful advice, but I think you're right to give small amounts of Critical Care plus syringing water as they will keep his digestion moving through and also keep him hydrated until you can get him seen on Monday.

Sending lovely Brko loads of vibes.

I'm so surprised now. There is always an emergency animal veterinarian in Turkey. Animal hospitals in Turkey provide 24-hour service. I am very surprised that it is different in Europe.

In my area of the USA many pet vets specialize in dogs/cats, and do not see rabbits , birds, or other exotic pets.

I'm so sorry he's unwell :( it's so hard at weekends when there's no exotic vet coverage :( sending him lots of vibes xx

He sounds to be on appropriate medication to address a bacterial respiratory tract infection and GI tract hypomotility. The antibiotics will take a good 48 hours to kick in and your supportive care should help during that time. If he is eating dried pellets I would not syringe feed him as aspiration is a risk if he already has an RTI. Subcutaneous fluids would be good, even an non Rabbit Savvy Vet should be able to do that and show you how to do it so you can administer them at home. That way you would not need to risk oral hydration.

Sending lots of get well vibes x

Small update. He is still alive. I see some setback this morning, drooling. So now I'm calling like crazy around if there might be a specialised vet that could check him up, do the x-rays of chest and stomach, to check esophagus.

The only thing he eats by him self are dry pellets, and apple just now, small piece. No carrot, no salad, no leafy greens, no dry forage. He slowly takes CC. He tried to drink watter by himself (yummy smell as it was some 100% apple juice in) but he got uncomfortable.

I thought pneumonia but nose and eyes are clear.

Lack of motion-lack of eating=belly gass. I'm giving him gass drops and belly massage through the day. He overall seems worse , yet breathing is better then friday night. But he keeps his head higher, not laying it on the ground.

Makes me guess heart, lung problem.

I will update if anything changes or if I finnaly get a hold of the vet tonight instead tomorrow.

I really get upset when i see your subject. I can't imagine the size of your sadness. I cry as i read. I wish i could help.:cry:

I hope you can find a Vet that can help. Getting him on some Oxygen may be beneficial. With pneumonia there is often no nasal discharge. Sending lots of vibes for him x
