Rabbit Savvy Vets throughout the UK- Please List

Does anyone know of a rabbit savvy vet in or near York? =)

It might be better to start your own thread to ask if there is not one listed already in your area, as this one is just a list of various ones that people use :) (and is quite old so probably not quite up to date!)

Orwell Vets in Kesgrave, Ipswich - Rachel and Laura (to be honest the whole team). http://www.orwellvets.co.uk/
Binky had her front leg amputated by Rachel, text book procedure.
Laura was extremely sensitive over the and talked us through all of our options including going to another vet.

While Binky was in the hospital, we were given updates every morning and night, and we were also allowed to visit out of hours to spend time with our Binky.

I would highly recommend them.

+1 for Marie - we used to see her when she was in Swindon, gutted when she left!

The current vets at GWR / Vets Now Referrals - Neil, Mikel, Tom and Shiva are all superb.
Mikel in particular performed some amazing life saving surgery on one of our buns to remove 11+ abscesses from her liver.

The other ex Great Western Referrals vets I can highly recommend are now conveniently spread out around the country:

Eli - http://www.ed.ac.uk/schools-departm...mal-and-wildlife/ourteam/elisabettamancinelli

Pru - http://www.ninemilevets.co.uk/pwpcontrol.php?pwpID=3343

I second Marie Kubiak http://www.manorvets.co.uk/exotic-pets/ Edgebaston, as outstanding.

Vet's now Referrals Formerly Great Western Referrals. Swindon http://www.vetsnowreferrals.com/
Specialise in exotics, will advise other vets over the phone, pricy but still worth it.
ETA hospital accommodation has a separate ward for bunnies. Nurse & vet in constant attendance out of hours.

:wave:Welcome to RU Stek2012
I was also gutted when Marie left.
My bridge bun Thumper had a serious progressive condition of his gut. Parts of it weren't contracting, especially the caecum, which packed up completely for 10months. So it was difficult for him to eat enough & he eventually needed drugs continuously to prevent stasis. He also had tiny dental spurs which wouldn't cause probs in a normal rabbit, but could tip him into stasis & we'd nothing left to kick start his gut again.
Marie & I were of like mind. We did the minimum to keep him comfortable & keep him going. This eventually meant dentals every month & increasing the domperidone gradually to very high dosage. There was no other option, he would have died.
Thumper had a lovely glossy coat, maintained weight & looked a picture of health!

When Mikel was new, he flatly refused to do a dental on Thumper until 6 weeks were up. He told me it was perfectly OK that Thumper was only eating 3 dandelion leaves per 24 hours,:)censored:) only weeing 5 ml (dehydrated) & told me he was a normal rabbit which I had made ill by overmedicating him!!!! & given him renal failure from metacam use.:shock::shock: I was to stop his medication!!!
We had to wait 5 days for a dental.
NOBODY could get Thumper to take critical care, although he never bit or kicked out. He needed subQ fluids for 21 days afterwards, cos he'd been left too long. (normally he just had subQ fluids x1 at the same time as the dental.) Not only were the tests for renal function perfectly normal, but at pm his kidneys were perfectly healthy.

Mikel's big mistake was not listening to me, & apparently not checking the copious previous notes with ultrasounds. He made a total "dog's dinner" of it, endangering Thumper's life.
Young, very arrogant, he had yet to learn that he doesn't know it all, but in fact very little. Maybe he's done so.
However I assess him as a superb surgeon, he certainly did an exellent dental previously. Apparently he had an "encylopaedic" knowledge of the research papers at the cutting edge of vet practice.

There was no apology for this traumatic episode, & no indication that he'd altered his opinion. GWR didn't like Thumper once Marie left, yet he was a remarkable bunny loved by so many. I had to change to a non exotics vet, who is non the less very good with buns. Thumper cheered up no end!

I'd promised that when Thumper died, they could do a pm for research purposes to find out why his gut slowly packed up. GWR were obstructive & unco operative but eventually obtained the specimens for us. Thumper was the 1st. ever recorded case of that type of TB in the gut!! But his management was the same as a megacolon bun or bun with dysautonomia.

One bad experience doesn't make a bad vet. I was prepared to repair the relationship but they weren't.

Would wholeheartedly recommend Mrs Marion Ford at Cambridge Veterinary Group. Without her expertise I am not sure we would still have Fifi after her ear infection/EC- she provided excellent and expert care and information and made herself available for us to ring her with any problems or queries. At the same time, she gave it to us straight, which we really appreciated - there was no pill surgaring so to speak.

At the same practice Mrs Jill Pearson is also fab :thumb:

We just feel that the buns are in such safe hands with them :)

West Oxford (Witney): Cogges Veterinary Surgery

http://www.coggesvet.com

Fantastic bunny nurse (Kerry) and all the vets there are very bun savvy (one did a degree study in EC) :thumb:

South Oxford (Didcot): Abivale Veterinary Group have a brilliant vet called Arturo (don't see anyone else there though)

http://www.abivale.com

Is Arturo the Spanish one? I don't use them for my bunny, but my old cat Ollie was registered there and we always saw the Spanish (I think) vet who was lovely!

Paula and Emily at King Richard's Vet in Leicester are very good

And of course, Subo who moved to Slough (can't remember the name of the practice at the moment).
