  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit Insurance

Having said that, do you have to pay up front first and then claim back on the insurance or do the vets usually claim direct from the insurance company??

Yes. you have to pay up first which is why I have a credit card, just for the time lag. I've heard some vets will come to an arrangement and allow delayed payment. The only problem there though would be if the insurance company decided it wasn't covered :?

When I studied pet insurance I chose Pet Plan because they are covered for life not annually, so if they develop anything during that year they will be covered for it in future years which not all companies do.

The bit about dentals being covered if it's affecting the health (why else would you have a dental!) is interesting as I *might* be about to take on a bunny whose teeth *may* be a problem and I was thinking of insurance because he may end up with digestive problems because he doesn't want to eat hard food. If he *might* get a payout for dental work at some stage then it makes insurance an even better option.

I made sure I asked about their policy on dental work, I was told the basic teeth cutting etc no, but for absesses, infections etc then yes you are covered

I was also told that they had to have the vaccines to be covered for those illnesses, and had to have regular dental checks-which is all done anyway
