  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

rabbit health issue??

my rabbit merlin is very inactive. during the day he only is awake when hes getting fed, when hes eating hay and ill see him awake for only about an hour or less. for the rest of the time he just sleeps. is this bad? he eats and drinks and is pooping so I don't think its a health issue

They usually do sleep a lot during the day, but often interspersed with activity and munching.

My guys are most active around 5am til 10am, then usually up for some mischief and munching around 3pm.

Then running around like nutters from about 7pm.

Mine are 2 and 3 years old. Is yours an elderly boy?

hes only a year old I thought maybe he was being less active because hes out of the baby stage but im not sure, hes sleeping a lot and he doesn't binky or zoomy hardly at all

What kind of set up does he have?

Does he have a bunny friend? When my buns have been single they have always slept a lot more or seemed to be as they get bored easily.

Mine were little daredevil nutters at that age even with some illnesses.

he has a big set up and I let him out of his cage but he still sleeps he doesn't have a partner but im getting one soon. his stomach is very hard and when I touched it he started kicking away from me..

That does sound odd. Especially if theres been a change.

I would probably pop him to a rabbit savvy vet for a check up.

There are others with far more experience with I that I'm sure will reply too [emoji16]

It sounds like you need to ask your vet for advice as a matter of urgency (ie TONIGHT). They will tell you if you need to take him in.

Is he still eating, weeing and pooing as normal?
