  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lucky is off his food

Lord Trellis

Mama Doe
He is eating but he only eats a tiny bit then rests while the other bunnies eat.

They all get bunny nuggets in the mornings and they normally chomp them down like there is no tomorrow and Lucky is always the first one jumping up at me before I even put the food bowl onto the ground he literally dives in. He is still energetic, he is pooping normally, he is still eating hay but I can't tell how much and he has lost weight although not a huge amount. He is off his nuggets he still gets excited when he hears the bag but he is only eating a tiny amount and it concerns me when the others are eating and he is laying down not eating.

I would get him checked out today. Weekends are going to be more difficult to find a vet, and it's a long time until Monday. The weight loss means he's not been eating proerly for a while. I would suggest you make sure his teeth are properly examined by a vet as well, as far as is possible on a conscious rabbit (ie using an otoscope to see the back ones).

I think you know the answer- vet check

Lucky might have dental problems.

Rabbits with ear pain often stop eating pellets. Better to get a Vet check done sooner rather than later.

Strongly agree with the previous two responses.

It's very likely pain that is causing him to be not eating properly, in which case he needs you to get him to a vet, so that not only the cause can be established, but he can also be given some pain relief.

Best to get to the vet for a check before his slow\diminished eating results in gut stasis.
Sending vibes for Lucky.
