  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pseudomonas Aeruginosa

New Kit
hi, Grey has been fighting against the bacterial for 1.5 years and the condition seems to be worse after recent hospitalization for GI. She might have caught the bacterial after her last hospitalization 1.5 years ago for heart issues diagnosis. She was given half a year to live then and now she is 6.5 years old and still a very bright and alert bunny! :D It is sad and heart painful to see Grey struggling with the sneezing the the nose discharge now while heart issues are stable with meds :( Are there any ways to clear the bacteria successfully?

According to the vet (rabbit savvy), no antibiotic can be given to Grey. Test showed the bacterial is sensitive to ceftazidime and polymyxin B but they are not suitable for rabbits. So Grey is on nebulization with F10 & Acetylcysteine (each twice a day) for 1.5 years now. Initially Grey only has the bacterial in 1 nostril and now both.

Ceftazidime can be given to Rabbits by injection, not orally . Anecdotal evidence only
