  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pregnant while pregnant?

a reader of books

I'm reading this book at the moment, Peacebunny Island by Caleb Smith, and in it it's said that bunnies can get pregnant again while they're already pregnant, and carry two litters at the same time, who will be born at different times. Is this true? I've done some Googling and it seems to be true, but I've never heard of it actually happening? Have any of you heard of it happening?

I don't know about rabbits, but it's possible with humans too. Although rare, such cases do exist.

Yeah, I saw that while I was Googling!

(I've given up on the book, by the way. It was too frustrating to read about the way a lot of bunnies were treated. Having 23 bunnies become classroom pets was the last straw. What kind of life is that for a rabbit. :?)

Interesting - never heard of it before. The book sounds grim, not surprised you've given up on it

I wouldn't continue reading that book if I were you. It looks so annoying :?

I have read that Rabbits have 2 uterine horns so it is possible that a Doe can carry 2 individual litters.
