  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

He is so much better!

It's been a joy hanging out with him today, he has gone from lying all day in his litter tray like a vacant puddle of bunny, to running around and responding to Millie (she's been licking his ears, I think they are sore from the cannula). He is finally eating pellets, one after an another. He has developed very strong views about being given meds at regular intervals and his head isn't tilting at all (it was slightly when he came home). I haven't seen any head shaking or eye rolling either. I was giving him Reiki earlier and I opened my eyes when he made a strange noise to see if there was any weird neuro thing happening and he was just grinding his teeth in a happy way, stretched out with his eyes half shut (not in pain, still on metacam, just contented). His urination is back to normal too.

I'm so relieved but not relaxing yet. I contacted Veerle Dejonckheere, a vet herbalist, who put me onto the herb to give him when he was exhausting Millie with too much humping when he was young. She has recommended I speak to Dr Krissy Green who has a website at www.hoptoforage.co.uk where she sells different dried herbal mixes for different health conditions in rabbits. I'm really pleased with the progress on the acute phase but I want to do everything I can to prevent reinfection or reactivation, including strengthening his ability to fight it off.

I'm so grateful for all your help too, nothing beats personal experience.

Correction: Krissy Green sells herbal meds for rabbits via that site but it is actually owned by Andrea and Sean who have bunnies.
