  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Not enough probiotics?

We took Blossom to the vet today, and the vet gave us the bio-lapis probiotics (6 sachet's) for both of our bunnies.

On the box it says give 1 sachet with 50ml of water, but I couldn't of left them with 50ml of water all night, so I gave them each 100ml of water with 2 sachet's in, which means I only have 2 sachets left for tomorrow.

Online it says give the probiotic for 5 days.. Do you think it matters? I'd hate to spend more money, buying more of it.

I would get some more because probiotics are important. When you take anti-biotics they can knock out the good bacteria as well as the bad ones. Probiotics help to restore the good bacteria which is important when you're recovering from any sort of illness.

Neither of them have been on anti-biotics. These have just been given to ensure their gut-flora is stable.

Ahh okay I see. I would still get more probiotics though, as if you only carry out half a course it won't really work the way it is supposed to.

Emailed the vet last night, she said seeing as the buns are in good health and just need a gut stabiliser, she gave us 3 sachet's each for them. :)
