new bunny, worried about bonding

I recently got a bunny named Stewie just about a week ago. After weeks of research I was confident to pick up my just under a year old Holland Lop, knowing to provide him lots of space and enrichment. He has made much progress the past week, even eating out my hand for the first time a couple days ago. But he mostly sits in the crate we have provides him in his X Pen all day, coming out in the evening. I worry I haven't given him enough space or need to come out. Is this normal in New rabbits?

Does he have a few hide-away shelters in the open area ? Rabbits like to have places they can retreat to if they get worried.
