  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neuter tomorrow! EDIT: HOME

Glad to hear they are through the op. It will take a while for them to recover from the effects of the anaesthetic so they might not eat for a bit.

I can't wait to get home and see them. I hope they don't think I've abandoned them

It will be your mum that they will be really fed up with, because she took them

Haha maybe I worked that one well then. :thumb:

Anyone got any advice on how long it usually takes for them to start eating? Did yours eat the same day or not until the next day? x

My boys were eating straight away pepper was even trying to eat the recovery blanket he was wrapped in to keep him warm :lol:

I've only ever had one boy done, so long ago I can't remember how long exactly it took him to be eating. The girls ate later the same evening though, preferring pellets, freshly picked grass, herbs and readigrass. They went off hay a bit for a couple of days, but I think buns normally go off their pellets if anything :?

My boys all started eating immediately, it's the girls that tend to take a while as they've obviously been through a more invasive procedure. I'm glad the boys have made it through okay :D

Thanks! As I said they haven't eaten yet but are still rather drowsy. I hope once they get home and are settled they will eat. I just want to go and get them now

I'm sure they will be fine. Doughnut took a while but didn't want pellets just fresh stuff. If you've got any grass you can pick to tempt them that would be good.

Good luck! x

Apparently I have to take them back to the vets tomorrow and then Friday too for a check? Did anyone else do this?

Is it a good idea to stress them out with a vet trip AGAIN the next day after the neuter?

My vets asked me to take oscar back on day 3 & day 10. They didn't tell me this until after the op!!! I flat refused as they know full well that it stresses oscar & me out so much when I gave to take him in, I checked the wounds myself & they healed up lovely, if not I would have had to go back, I think it was about 3 weeks before i took him back.

I would, just so they can check healing, especially as its your first neuter and you'll be unsure what is normal etc.

I don't take mine back anymore unless I'm worried but I have had 17 buns neutered/spayed and live a fair distance from my vets so my vets are happy with me doing that.

Milo and Finn are home, they are in the medical cages and have both eaten, Milo has eaten plenty of hay and pellet and Finn had had a nibble on some pellet and kale. Finn is not yet interested in hay.

Milo has pood and I think Finn has too. But Milo is pooing a lot and Finn only very little. Don't know if they are weeing yet.

Milo is active but Finn is drowsy. He keeps on drifting off to sleep.

Both seem fine, wounds look swollen but OK. I'm going to try and keep them calm and quiet tonight.

Still not sure about taking them to the vet tomorrow though. Surely they need rest not more poking around with? :(

Mine go back to the vets 2 days after then a week later and thats it then unless i feel they are need to be seen otherwise
