Leo my elderly bunny is very ill at the moment - not sure how long he will be around for as he has cancer and he can't be treated.
I was close to having him PTS last week but he made it pretty clear he wasn't ready - he's now back home and has perked up a bit.
Anyway his annual moults started - something that takes ages and usually stresses him out but this year the fur seems to be coming away faster - from his rear it's coming off in big clumps but the trouble is I'm seeing bald skin underneath - and not the thicker dense winter fur which is worrying.
Vet said hes got facial eczema at the moment - they clipped some facial fur away as he has a tiny spot of basically fly strike which was awful but spotted very early so he's been treated and now appears clear. He had antibiotic injection and a steroid one after that.
Has anyone known of a rabbits fur not growing back after a moult? I'm worried if he gets lots of bald patches he will feel the cold more if he survives into the winter.
Can't really move him inside as I can only fit a puppy playpen in my room which is smaller than his hutch and he's not happy in there, he's lived outside all his life.
I've not been brushing him but have removed a few clumpy bits of fur and he's luckily nice and clean and dry - after the episode with his head I'm paranoid about fly strike so am checking him all over twice a day.
He had rear guard on but that's nearly at the 10 weeks now, I'll have to see if the vet thinks its wise to apply another lot maybe not with patches of bare skin & moult and this facial irritation which he's having Dermisol cream on.
Not sure if I should just leave the fur to come off naturally or give him a gentle brush or just remove the fluffy fur?
Considering how Ill he is he's doing ok & is trying so hard to keep himself clean, such a fighter!
