  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

lump/scab found on bunny...advice please?

Nikipops

New Kit
I was stroking my bunny today and found a small scab/lump on her side, just above her back legs, it looks like a scab on top but feels like a pea size hard lump underneath...it does not seem to cause her any irritation and it didnt seem to hurt her when I was having a look, her coat is healthy and she's eating and running around as normal. Does anyone know what this is? :(

Is she a bonded bunny? It could be the start of an abcess (sp?) if your buns have ever had a fight. If you do have bonded buns I would go to the vets as it will need cleaning and a course of baytril.

If not I would still go to the vets as bunnies can get very ill very quickly. Does the area around the scab feel hot?

I don't want to worry you but personally I would take my buns to the vet, and have found very similar to you and it was an infected wound from a fight they had.

Someone else will probably be able to help more though as if your bun isn't bonded I'm not sure what it could be.
