First off hello all, I'm new to the board. I've been a lurker for a bit, just enjoying pics of everyones buns but have never posted.
I've had my dwarf lop Scampie for almost 6 years now, shes a house rabbit.
We've had a very sad time recently, and to top everything off are in the process of moving into our first house which has been a bit of an added stress. I spent all yesterday packing and Scamp was very curious and excited about all the comotion and was round and under my feet all day. We've moved twice before in the space of a year so I don't know if she knew what was happening, or if thats just silly...
When it was time for me to leave for work I sat down to put my shoes on, she darted forward towards me with her nose out and I sat on her face. I heard a sickening crunch and my partner yelled.
She took herself into a dark corner and when I tried to get at her she ran upstairs to her room and balled herself up on her duvet. She started shutting her eyes and seemed really distressed. I tired to look at her but was frightened if she had broken something I might hurt her even more. We took her straight to the emergency vets.
She has lost a lower inscissor, the vet had a good look at her and said she was unable to see that anything else was broken or fractured but administed 2 types of painkillers (that would cover her for the next 24 hours), given liquid food and recommended an X-ray when we see our vet in the morning. When we brought her home we put her down and she found a stray rabbit pellet on the floor that she picked up and ate.
This morning we took her to the vet and she was given a check over but told although there is nothing obvious to see that doesn't mean that there isn't a chip or fracture to the jaw. We were more or less told because of the risk in putting her under it would be better to see how she is eating/ behaving and monitor her with view to bring her in again Thursday or next day if shes not eating. Iw as pretty confident she would eat.
Since bringing her home this morning shes just stayed in her room all day laid on her blanket. Shes never been given painkillers before, so I can't tell if its that or that shes hurting. Shes got up about three times and moved round only to return to the blanket and shut her eyes. She usually goes crazy for her food but is disinterested, when she does eat its just one or two pellets, or she just mouths at them without picking them up.
Its aweful seeing her like this. I feel so so guilty about it all and am just so so worried, after everything we've been through recently we were hoping the final move would mean something possitive. I don't know what we'd do if Scamp wasn't coming with us.
I know alot of you have lots of bunny experiance has anyone been had anything similar happen? I just need to know things are going to be ok..
