  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Honey’s results Update p68

7.5 yr old Alfie underwent dental burring four weeks ago and one molar fell out. He is quite badly maloccluded and his teeth are apparently loose and 'all over the place'. One week later, he developed an ear abscess. This seems to be clearing with daily baytril and metacam. However, this past week he has shown signs of discomfort and stopped eating hay. I am sure it's his teeth as he keeps chewing on nothing, scratches under his chin and sneezes a lot. The vet says he needs an x ray to establish the cause. My vet doesn't do rabbit dentistry and would refer Alfie to an exotics vet. I am worried sick about the stress all this would cause Alfie in terms of carting him off to the vet yet again - would it be best to contact the exotics vet direct? And would they x ray, then do what needed to be done straight away? And does anyone have any idea of costs? I live in East Sussex.

Apologies if this post is in the wrong place...I am a newbie plus I'm tired and so worried!
