  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help - boy or girl?

Sushi

New Kit
I got my rabbit Sushi back in May and was told both by her previous owner and a vet that she was a girl. However, she's been spraying urine a lot and I've since noticed what I think are testicles? I've attached a picture so would really appreciate any help if anyone can confirm! I haven't been able to hold her for long enough to look at the area properly as she will only stay still when I'm holding her tight against and facing my chest.

Whether he/she is a boy or girl, it would be better to talk to a vet about getting him/her neutered

Thanks Richard, I’m planning on neutering and discussed this with our vet when we got her (had to wait til she was old enough).

Can't tell from the photo but it's usually the boys which spray urine but some females do it as well. If you can see what you think are testicles then he is ready for neutering. Some boys do look like girls until they get a bit older ie 12 weeks.

Hard to tell from the photo but there may be testicles visible there I think?? I would give your vets a call to discuss getting him rechecked and then castrated if a male :)

My bridge girl Cleo before spaying Sprayed her neutered husbun Rio and me all the time.Rio would be quietly bunloafing then get a faceful of pee, shook his old lugs and continued snoozing. Once spayed her hormones died down and this behaviour stoped.
