  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can science selective cause gas?

My box of fibrefirst arrived and I have to say it smells divine:) looks like little twigs. I have started substituting one twig, weight wise, for ss pellets a day and bun goes banans for his twig. They recommend taking 4 weeks to slowly change over so will see how it goes. I have also got a small bag of Janes mix coming in case he still had episodes on fibrefirst.

I am going to weigh bun this coming week as inside he is alot more active than he was outsid even thoug he was free ranging outside, if we weren't outside with him he just used to sit and go trance like whereas inside with us he is racing around alot more.

We had 12 people come to house at once yesterday for coffee and cake and he loved it - had most of them on their hands and knees with a bunny tickling their noses!!! He just loves people.

My two mini rexes were on Science selective for 5 years, and had had many episodes of stasis and bloat. I decided to change over to Supreme Vetcare Plus Digestive Health last summer, and since then, they haven't had a single bloat or stasis episode (long may it continue :thumb:). I don't know if SS caused the gas, but their new product is certainly helping to prevent it.
