Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Breathing problems?

RLO

Young Bun
Concerned about Binci’s breathing tonight. She seemed ok earlier but after carpet time and her evening MetaCam we put her back in her enclosure and as well as not being interested in veggies was making some odd movements. Worried that she may have inhaled some of her MetaCam (for her arthritis)?

She is normally a noisy breather but this seems different. Recently lost her husbun and are reluctant to use the out of hours service, but maybe we’ll get a better vet this time.

Breathing oddly

Vets straight away. Any new onset breathing problems always require prompt Veterinary attention. Pain can cause an increased respiratory rate and not eating is another sign of pain. But it’s impossible to know for certain what the problem is without her being examined. Please don’t delay contacting a Vet. Hope she will be be OK.

Sadly she collapsed shortly after being seen by the vet and passed away while we were there. 😢

It’s sad and strange to be without the bunnies in our lives. After unexpectedly losing Humphrey late October I was worried about getting Binci through this damp weather and bonding stress. For now we’re focusing on our two guinea pigs and remaining cat rather than rushing to rescue again but veggie time is very low key now. We do have a new hutch on order to go in the outdoor run so maybe next year… Please make the most of your lovely rabbits and thank you all for your messages at this sad time for us.
