  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

At the risk of sounding completely stupid...(vaccinations)

Just wanted some advice on vaccinations really.

Timmy is almost 6 months old and is neutered.

We were told that as he is a house bun we won't need to get him vaccinated. I'm sure this is wrong!

Any advice on what vaccinations are required and how often?

Just want to do the best for our little Tim  but feel like everyone is telling us different things

Thank you so much, it's what i wanted to hear!

Sometimes you think people are supposed to be professionals and they give you the wrong information :censored:

all rabbits should be vaccinated - myxi can be carried in by any biting insect (fleas, mozzies etc), vhd can come in on your hands and feet.

any vet advising otherwise needs correcting - and you should think about finding a better vet.

My buns have always been housebuns & have always been vaccinated.I used to have them done twice a year for myxy & Vhd until the vet finally said VHD only needed to be once a year!!So they now have myxy twice a year & VHD once.I try I space them equally throughout the year so they get 3 check ups a year too.:)
