  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Infacol.....

My bunnies always go off colour on a sunday evening, and so I have decided to have a bottle of infacol....
is it just a normal one I buy from the chemist ? and how much do I give them ?
Thanks -x- will go get some on pay day (thurs)

Infacol can be obtained from the Baby Section of most supermarkets

If your Buns are having regular tummy pain maybe a trip to the Vet is needed :?

2mls of Infacol + some tummy rubs can be given as the first dose.
Another 1-2ml can be given an hour later if no improvement.

Always best to treat the CAUSE of a gassy Bunny rather than the symptom

Some Veg causes gas- Brocolli, Cabbage, Kale being the usual suspects.
Too much carbohydrate and/or sugar in the diet can cause problems too.
Buns who dont eat enough hay get sluggish guts and a build up of gas.
Buns with dental problems dont eat enough hay so thats another thing to get checked!!
Lazy Buns have lazy guts. So lack of exercise causes sluggish guts and the consequent build up of gas.

A TRUMPING BUNNY IS A HAPPY BUNNY!! :D

I use fruit flavoured rennie rapize instead of infacol - it does the same job, but they can eat it up like a sweetie, which is good if you can't syringe a bunny. I give one tablet - Maa's favourite is raspberry! :)

Like Jane says though - better treating the cause. I sometimes have to force Maa out of her hutch and chase her a bit if she's a bit 'off' - a run up and down the patio soon gets her guts moving again.

What a great idea! I'd never have thought of that! :)

Thanks for letting me know! all this interesting stuff....
Dont worry she very rarely seems to ever have a gassy tummy... its just on the couple of occassions she has its been on a sunday night  I give her tummy rubs and pineapple , but I just thought seeing as everyone uses infacol I would have a bottle handy :)
