Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Oxytetracycline LA

Hello! :) Has anyone's bun had a course of Oxytetracycline LA injections? Humphrey has had one injection so far and will be having them every three to four days for a possible tear duct infection. Just wondering if anyone's had this medication for their bun and how long before you noticed any improvement. Also, what was the length of treatment? Thanks, Claire x

Hi Claire. I have had a couple of Buns on Oxytet LA. They had 3 injections, one every 3 days. I noticed improvement in symptoms (Lower Respiratory Tract Infection) about a day after the SECOND injection.
Oxytet LA has to be injected into MUSCLE

Thank you, Jane! As you know, Humphrey had his first injection on Wednesday afternoon, with his second due tomorrow. No improvement in the watering of his eyes yet, but I have noticed more of a milky discharge now :? Also, two little round blobs of white "gunk" were in the corners of his eyes last night. We bathed them out, but this is the first time in a few weeks that I've seen white blobs. Do you think the antibiotic is loosening the gunky stuff or just a coincidence. I just hope we're on the right track here! Claire x
