Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Keeping neutered bunny in...

Hi, I just got back from the vets with the newly ball-less Gaius... he has been living outside, and just wanted to check with you lot how long I should be keeping him inside for...? The vet nurse said 2-3 weeks! not sure what the house bunnies would say to that!!!

I was told ten days with my male bunny, but he did have a slight problem with one of his stitches as the wound was a bit sore looking.

Think usually overnight is enough, but I did what the vet advised me in this particular situation.

When Trip was neutered I kept him in for 2 days. He was fine and I just lined his hutch with blankets so nothing could irritate him. That was in the summer though. If he is kept in the house then put outside in this weather it would be a huge temprature drop so im not really sure :?

I keep mine in overnight and see how they go. if they seem themselves and are eating and pooping ok then I put them back outside. Be careful with the extreme weather differences between outside and in at the mo tho, I'd keep him somewhere coolish if you have such a room in the house.

Fudge has been done just over a week now. He hates being in the house & goes into a panic when I try him inside..
Myself & the vet decided he could go out in his poppy house as it was quite mild then. I removed all hay & put in vet bed, heatpad& lots of fleece blankets..
Fudge came to me as a foster bun new years eve & before here had never been handled :( ... He has picked up an infection though & has swelling :( so I'm not sure I did the right thing by putting him outside.
But like the vet said If I would kept inside he may not of eaten through stress... His swelling has gone down a bit though thankfully :) & he has another check on Monday..
