  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

runny nose and nerves following neuturing :-(

well sam was spayed today, she came out of anisthetic fine, and we collected her from the vets at 5pm.

the vet said that the op had goen well, however since coming round sh ehad developed a snotty nose (and boy is it a snotty one!).

the vet said this can often be nerves wth rabbits that bring it out, we are not sure if was nerves over being elft, or nerves from yesterday as she had a trip in teh car only to find she doesnt like cars atall. she said her heart and respiritory sytem all seamed fine.

anyway teh vet has put her on antibiotics, and is going to see her again friday. she kindly gave us the antibiotics f.o.c. which was nice.

but trying to give a rabbit with a cut on teh belly, oral antibiotics is no fun atall.

anyone any tips? and has anyone else experienced a runny nos efrom nerves before?

An occurance of snuffles can sometimes be triggered by stress, so it is possible that the stress of the op could have caused your bunny`s problem.
Have you tried wrapping her in a towel to administer the baytril to prevent her from trying to struggle?

Sorry that i can`t be more help. Sending positive vibes.

I found the only stress-free way(for me as well her her!! :D) was to give Floss her oral antibiotics wrapped in a peice of cabbage or her fav greens. It meant I had to do each dose in 2 or 3 sep units otherwise the meds rolled out before she'd eaten the greens , but it all went down! Worked well for me.
