Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sneezy bun.

Maisy

New Kit
Hi

I had to take Maisy to the vets today as she has been sneezing and had some discharge from her nose. The vet gave her an injection of antibiotics and prescribed baytril to use for the next seven days. Since bringing maisy home she has been eating and pooing well.

I feel a bit rubbish as I have only had her for nine days!
I was wonderin if any one has experience with their bunny havin this prob and how long it should take for the sneezin to subside.

Are their any measures I can take to help her into recovery? She is a house bun by the way.

Thank you xx

Deprnds what the vet said it was, my guess its pasturella. Theres no cure the batril will only make it die down temperarily. Fresh air will help dont keep him too warm it will make it worse. Theres nothing much else you can do most rabbits live with it fairly well and only resort to the batril when its very bad. val

i am going through the same thing with Dobbin at the moment - i have not had him to long either.

Its so common now that most rabbits have it and its pot luck if they get ill with it. many rabbits keep well enough with it and only have small hicups in there heath. some others though its a different matter and as you probebly know can cause all sorts of other illnesses. I think its wise not to give batril at the slightest sign in case they become emune to it as they will have it for life. I will only give it if there very chesty or have a heavy discharge from the nose. Ive had a rabbit with it for some years now and he only gets bad about every twelve months or so. Hes one of the lucky ones. Ive known babys die from it as they get it from there parents and when there so young they carnt always fight it off. val
