Bun not right 2wks after molars burred

Nicola3

Mama Doe
Hello,

Can anyone offer any advice?

My incisorless wild bunny Harvey had his molars burred two weeks ago. He has not been right ever since and has gone off his food. It seems as though he is in pain and will just hide behind the sofa all day.

He has been back to the vet and she cannot see anything wrong with him. She has checked his molars and mouth and jawline but can't see anything obvious.

Has anybody elses bun showed these signs after a molar burr?

What could be wrong with the little man?

Hoping you can offer some advice.

Alfie is always off for a couple of days after his,but then he is usually a lot better
He doesnt have an absess does he?

Hello,

The vet doesn't seem to think so as she has checked and can't see any signs of an abcess. Would it be obvious?

I am so upset. He is on painkillers but he is still off his food. I think it is causing him pain to eat. I have to take him back to the vets again on Wednesday.

I just thought if anybody else had had a similar experience with their bun I could run it past my vet on Wednesday.

If anyone has any ideas as to what could be wrong please let me know as I just want to get to the bottom of it.

Love and hugs,

Nicola and Harvey xxx

Have you had x-rays taken? I would suggest this is the best way to see the full extent of any overgrowth in the mouth.

Is this the first time you've had this done? Have you had x-rays taken?

Molar burring is quite an aggressive procedure. He could be in pain from the filing. I would take him back for x-rays because then you can see the full extent of the overgrowth. b-m

first time my big bun Blueberry muffin had his back teeth done he was the same .

took him over a month to eat properly again .
like your vet mine couldnt find anything wrong .

kept tempting him with loads of different stuff .
also soaked his pellets in apple or pinapple juise and chopped all his fruit and veg realy small ,
gradualy he got back to normal .

had his teeth done again a month or so ago and this time he was back to normal within a week :D

Hello,

Thanks for all your replies.

This is about the 5th or 6th time he has had them burred. This time he hasn't been right since. He had them done 16 days ago and since he has had it done has been off his food and has been hiding away.

I have taken him back to the vets and they've checked him over and can't find anything wrong with him.

He had an x-ray at the beginning of the yr but it was quite small and not particularly clear.

I don't really want him to have another GA in order to have an x-ray at the mo as it might make him worse.

Is there any food I can tempt him with that he may find irresistible? I have tried softening pellets etc but he won't go near that. He doesnt like softened food but is there any yummy bunny food I can tempt him with?

Thank you all.

Love and hugs,

Poor Harvey. :(

Esmerelda and Belle both seem ok eating after their molar burrs, so I guess i'm lucky really.

Has he lost weight do you know? If you just need to get him eating again you could try rolled oats in a little water, human baby food (vegetarian, non dairy in jars from the supermarket)- mine love it. Perhaps a little apple or brown bread.
Mine also go crazy for Kale strangely enough.

Someone suggested to me mushing the pellets up with warm water and mixing with banana.

Sounds like you are happy with your vet, but perhaps it is worth considering a dental specialist?

I hope he is better soon. x

Hi ya, soz to hear about your bun, i did have a similar thing with one of my buns in the past- she wouldnt eat for a while after her dental. the vet thought i might be because she had worn the teeth down too much and her teeth were then very sensitive. she was put on painkillers and recovered after a few weeks. Mean while we syringe fed her. Sorry not much, help just wanted to say ive experienced a similar thing. Hope your bun get better soon.

Kristin and Alfie xxxx
