Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

RABBIT DRAGGING LEG

holder

Alpha Buck
I tried to post lots of times at tea time yesterday but it would not let me post :(
I took Honey yesterday for her VHD injection plus have her nails cut i then took her home but she did not want any thing to do with me, i thought i would leave her a lone has she was upset after being at the vets which she is always the same after being there.
After i got in from work she was still in the same place i left her so i went to give her some love but she moved away from me then i noticed she was dragging her front leg, i managed to get hold of her & she was covered in poo which is a first for her it was all over her back legs & all over her rear to, the vets was closed so i phoned my sister who has a rabbit & she thought it was because of her nails being cut to short & she might be in pain, i washed all the mess of her & noticed it has started her hock to be sore again from sitting in the poo.
I took her back to the vets again & they give her a pain killer injection & they think it could be a reaction to the VHD has she is only a small rabbit, or it is from her nails!!!
Has any one else had a rabbit who has had a reaction to the VHD & if so how did the rabbit react, i am worried about her but she has started to use her leg now since the pain killer but is still staying in one place & not really moving around, Honey is eating & was last night also,
Can any help to put my mind at rest please.

Thanks jane the vet gave her a pain killer & said not to have the VHD again that was yesterday & honey is now walking o.k now but she still won't come to me or my son & she always runs up to him when she is upset with me.
I phoned the RWA & they did not know what it was but told me what to say to the vet about it.
Honeys both hocks have started again they are red & swellon thats because of her sitting in her poo & wee all day so i have to keep a close eye on her.
At least i know it is the VHD now thanks again Jane X
