The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Bunny at vets on Friday

Hi, I got my rabbit on Monday and I've booked her into the vets for vaccinations on Friday morning.
I was just wondering if there is anything I should ask about or get her checked out for while I'm there? She's 7 weeks.
Any advice would be appreciated as this is my first rabbit for about 17 years and I don't remember much

Well she will need to go twice for vaccinations, there needs to be 2 weeks between Myxi and VHD

When i took Quinn i asked them firstly to check he was actually male as i dont trust P@H where i got him, and they then listened to his heart, checked his eyes / bum / teeth and quizzed me on what i feed him etc

Then i also asked what age they like to neuter male buns at and asked how often he should have his vaccines etc

They will usually do a general health check for you if its a new pet or if you ask for it

I think 7 weeks is too young for vaccinations - they are supposed to be with mum till 8wks and they have some immunity from her till then - vaccinations stress the immune system, and if she's trying to cope with leaving home, new home, new food, new people etc. it would be best to leave vaccs till she's settled in after a couple of months maybe?

Most vets do the myxi vac first, and Feb/March is a good time to get it done for the spring mozzies (main carriers of myxi) - there should be 2 weeks in between vaccs to give the immune system time to sort it all out :)

7 weeks is very young to have left mum. I think elve may be right about being too young for vaccs . i would double check with your vet.

good luck with your new bun

Really? My vet never said a word, just did the jabs, neutering, teeth & nail check all in the same day on most of my bunnies

Hiya, yes 7 weeks is way to young for a Bun to have been re-homed/sold. The Myxomatosis vaccine can be given from the age of 6 weeks. VHD is usually given from 10 weeks+. If, due to a confirmed disease outbreak it is given BEFORE 10 weeks vaccination should be REPEATED AFTER THREE MONTHS to insure optimum immune response. I would take great care with your baby buns diet as being so young he will be at risk of GI disturbance. I would advise constant access to a good quality hay and the dried mix he has been weaned onto. I would NOT feed him veggies at all just yet. Hope he gets on OK at the Vets. Jane and Buns xx
