blitzen is leaking wee update seeing molly varga

Last night when blitzen was hopping into his house i noticed his tail looked thin and pointy so i brought him out and he was really wet all on his bum, tail and his back legs. I gave him a shallow bath in the sink and dried him and he went back inside. This morning he was exactly the same again so i phoned the vet and got him in for 10.30. she has gave him bayril and said come back in a week and if there is no improvement i have to start panicur. She scared me by then saying he might have to have an ultrasound on his kidneys to check for sludge and stones. I really hope its just the uti and the bayril works. Has anyone had a bun that was leaking and it was just a water infection? :(

Yes, quite a few. Hopefully the Baytril will sort things out, although Blitzen may require more than a 7 day course of it. This is often the case with UTIs.

Aww W&S don't worry! It's very likely to be a Urinary Tract Infection, easily sorted by Baytril. You should notice a difference within a week if that's the case. Poor little man, I hope he will be all better soon xx

thats good to know about the uti , ive made myself worry more reading through threads about kidney failure. I will have to ask can he be on the baytril a bit longer before trying anything else. He is his happy binky self but im scared of flystrike when hes wet. Is it ok to bath him every day as long as i make sure he is dry afterwards. Luckily is lives inside so less risks there. Thanks for the vibes xxxx

Nooo don't worry about kidney failure

As I said, you should begin to see a good improvement well within a week. Your vet may wish to change the meds if there's no improvement at all.

I shouldn't think flystrike is such a worry now the weather's turned rather. And together with your good care, he's in brilliant hands :D

thanks xx i couldnt get him to take the syringe so i mixed it with oats and he gobbled them up lol.. not good when im getting them to lose a little weight but its worth not traumatizing him

You've not tried mixing it with baby food?

Good idea about the oats though. I shouldn't think a few will make much difference. xx

Blitzen seems a bit dryer this morning and i could get away with sponge bathing him but im not counting my chickens yet. He is still happy in himself and doesnt seem to hate me yet

Good man blitzen :D

You must be doing something incredibly right for him not to hate you for giving him Baytril

blitzen is still really wet and im having to bath him everyday. All his fur is still stained and he is on the verge of urine scald. Been back the vets today and hes lost 500g in a week and thats with me giving him loads of oats mixed with the baytril. Vet said i will refer to a specialist and ive asked to see molly varga. I have to get a urine sample which will be fun. Im so worried about him. I asked should i start to panucur but she said no wait and rule out other thing? He only did 5 days baytril which i know isnt enough but i will feel better knowing he is under a specialist. Vet said its around £80 for referal. Does anyone know how much blood tests are with molly (and if its normal prices for treatment) need to start budgeting because he isnt insured.

I have no experience of "wee" problems with rabbits, but I'm so sorry that Blitzen is still wet. I would also feel more reassured under a specialist in your position and my rabbits aren't insured either. I'm sure someone will be able to advise of the cost of blood tests. Do you know when you could get an appointment? Sending loads of vibes for your poor little fella.

I'm sorry Blitzen is still having bladder issues :(. It's good that he's now going to be seen by a specialist who will hopefully be able to get straight to the cause of the problem. Fingers crossed it'll just be a case of having to use a different antibiotic.

My vet said i should hear from specialist by friday. I just cant keep him dry, i put blankets down and they dig them up, i put hay down and they all think im giving them permission to wee anywhere lazy sods lol.. I would cut some fur back but would that make him get urine scald more.
