Interested to see how many bunnies you all feel can be sensibly kept together, and what your own experiences have been.. I've kept a maximum of 4 together in my lifetime, but now my partner and I are aware of how many are in rescues we want to rehome as many as possible! One day we dream of opening a rabbit sanctuary but that's a long way off.
That possibly sounds insane but we love our bunnies like our children and would do anything for them. I'm disabled so always home to give them the care they need. And I love doing it. We have a menagerie and it's a magical place for our children to grow up!
I grew up with rabbits, sadly in those days the only books on the subject were based on breeding and meat/fur farming, and there was no Internet. My first few were kept in hutches alone (though given lots of attention and exercise). They were bought from breeders and pet shops. I now look back on this and it makes me want to cry. I loved those bunnies but that isn't enough. We'd love the chance to do whatever we can for bunnies who need care.
We currently have a young bonded pair (m/f). Our house and garden are fully bunny-proofed and we have the room for more.
My question is, is the more the better in terms of their welfare? Or is there a cut-off point? I'm not talking about becoming insane animal hoarders, but doing the most amount of good.
Any viewpoints welcomed!
