Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Without being able to actually see what you are describing it's impossible to say if it is 'normal healing' or not. Eye ulcer can take many weeks of treatment to fully resolve. I hope the Vet calls you back as promised.

I have asked the Moderators to move your thread over to the 'Health' section of the Forum :)

Here's some help with posting photos:

http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/s...tos-directly-from-facebook-or-another-website

I'm very sorry to hear about your rabbit's eye. Has he been seen by a vet at all? I note the vet will call you tomorrow, I just wondered when this issue with the eye had flared up.

Edited to add: I have just seen you've uploaded a photo. In my experience it's worth getting a dedicated ophthalmologist to look at eye conditions. I realise some people are happy for their vets to send photos to specialists to get advice, but I would never mess around with possible diagnoses where eyes are concerned.

I am sorry for your little one, and I hope you can get help :)

You really would need to see an eye specialist to advise you what's going on here. The little one could be in pain, and you obviously care a lot about him

hi,yes we took him to the vets the day we seen the eyelid closing, hes been alot of times and hes on 2 oral meds and 2 eye meds.he had a penecilin injection last thursday as the the meds wasnt touching him.hes due for another on thursday but i wasnt sure weather to leave it until thursday thats today i rang the vets up and they said they was going to ring me in the morning to discuss it

I'm so sorry - you are obviously worried sick :(

I hope your vet can recommend someone to see if it's a problem they have not come across before. He's obviously had an issue with his eye ongoing?

hes alot better in himself but it worries me because rabbits dont show sign of pain, hes never been put off his food or water since day one.i just dont no what to think with the change this morning weather its a improvement or not

Well you are right that rabbits don't show signs of pain. They will even eat through their pain, even if the very act of eating causes them pain! They are such brave little soldiers.

We cannot advise you on here. And especially something as delicate and important as eyes. I hope your vet can speak with you in the morning and plan a way forward for you and your little man x

I'm so sorry :( Is he still eating and drinking OK? I realise that doesn't mean he's in pain, but at least tomorrow you can ask the vet for some Metacam as an interim measure to make sure he has pain relief whilst you sort out his problems.

It doesn't seem fair that you have had him so little time and all you've had is worry. That would be very hard for anyone.

Fleur is a lovely name  My children named our first rabbit Sophie. Then we found out she was a boy ...

I'm glad you have faith in your vets. A trusted vet is worth their weight in gold :D I'm glad he's still eating and drinking, so he won't be suffering any gastro-intestinal issues which is a very good thing.

Our rabbit was called Sophie, then 'she' grew very big and was called Big Sophie. Then she turned into a boy  and was just called Big from there on ...

What's in a name, eh? :D

I am not sure where you are but there are dedicated opthamologists who might be able to help - I can give you the email of one who has looked at my rabbits eyes (and she is an exotics specialist for eyes as well) but she works out of the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket - a large specialist animal health centre.

I havnt seen anything look like that before.
