Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Oliver - Sludge Maybe Back - vets tomorrow - blood tests ??

Oliver had an xray on 9th April which showed sludge in his bladder which was expressed. I changed him to a low calcium diet and a pee sample tested a month later showed no sludge. I haven't seen any sludge in his urine but he uses the litter tray a lot so I can tell so well but he is sitting hunched a lot at times with his eyes half closed which me thinks means he is in pain but then later or he will do mad run arounds as if nothing is wrong. So to rule out the sludge having returned he is booked in for an xray again tomorrow. Would the pain of intermittent sludge come and go ?? Would I need blood tests as well to rule out other things ?? Can sludge be secondary to other conditions? ? Any particular blood tests I should ask for ??

My experience with Artie was that his urine always looked clear because when he urinated the calcium deposits weren't being mixed in with the urine but became a sediment and stayed in his bladder and built up.

This can be down to arthritis and other reasons why they are unable to sit in the right position to urinate. In Artie's case, our vet believed there was something wrong with his bladder/function of his bladder that caused him to not fully empty it, therefore the sediment element never being emptied as it should be. Damaged caused by e. cuniculi being a strong possibility.

I'm not sure about your questions but I *think* yes to the pain coming and going. I suspect some stasis episodes before Artie were diagnosed were probably caused by the sludge.
