Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Hi all,

I came home today to find mabel lying on her side and not looking well atall. I rang the vet and took her in (out of hours so its cost be a fortune as id only recently decided i would cancel the insurance!) They examined her and said they think she has a chest infection. They have given her some antibiotics and an anti inflammatory. They also sent me home with some more antibiotics and some food incase she doesn't eat. She is now eating though so i will leave that out for now.

My two bunnies are in an insulated shed but the vet said to bring them in and re introduce them outside when the weather improves. What would you do from here? Keep them in until spring, keep them in permanently or send them back out asap? The vet did say when rabbits are prone to chest infections they often come back?

Im so annoyed i cancelled the insurance. I figured i would just transfer the money each month into savings instead. BIG MISTAKE..

If they have come in then they really need to stay in until spring now. Hope she feels better soon!
