  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have had one who had EC related cataracts and uveitis. He eventually passed away due to a Thymoma (tumour in his chest)

One who had cataracts, hind leg paresis and finally renal failure. The renal failure resulting in his passing

One who had seizures. He lived with the condition for 6.5 years, finally passing away due to a bacterial infection

One who had cataracts, then glaucoma and eventually had to have an eye removed. He then developed renal failure and passed away aged about 8.

A couple years ago I had Domino, who had EC from birth and had cataracts. I got her from horrible conditions when she was about 6 but she lived to 10ish with no problems (not even head tilt), however she eventually had an awful flare up and treatment did nothing. She was so distressed and unstable that she was PTS.

I currently have Flora, again from horrid conditions. She had very mild head tilt and urinary incontinence but recovered after treatment. She did have a flare up (extremely mild and a lopped ear) but again disappeared with panacur and metacam.

Also have Ivy, her 5 kits and Baloo. Ivy's bloods came back positive for EC so she and her bubs are being treated, as well as Baloo as in previous home they lived together. None have symptoms, except Ivy is on the thin side but this could be from back to back litters.

Molly only started to go down hill after she had her teeth filed back, possibly caught from another rabbit at the vets?! She's been doing really well after going on panacur for almost 2 weeks but yesterday she had a tiny fit and today a pretty bad one. I don't want to take her back to the vets because she gets super stressed and that tends to cause a seizure but I need to get metecam.

Molly is 5 and never had as much as a sniffle before her this so I get so worried, I can't sleep. I have her in my room at night and the slightest hop makes me panic! I'm probably being overly dramatic but I don't know what I'd do if I lost her :(

Yuki had ec

She eventually passed away from complications of ec

But some buns live to be 10-11 with ec it all depends

Yuki was a very happy very cuddly and living bunny

She always got he head tilt and flickering eyes when she had an attack of it, she started to get rear let weakness but I made her a harness and we built her back legs up again

Ec can effect the brain, spine and kidneys etc... Eventually it spread and her little body couldn't take it and she had a stroke

She was forever on and off Metacam, antibiotics, steroids and panacure

Moshe had bladder issues so I cleaned her daily but se didn't mind and would munch on a treat as I did it

Ec effects buns differently it dsnt always spread
