  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A friend in West Kent has discovered one of her younger buns has developed full blown myxi despite having been vaccinated - be vigilant folks

 that's not far from me. Was the bunny in full health when vaccinated and have they notified the manufacturers?

Oh no that's awful :(

I'm in West Kent so I will make sure to keep an extra close eye on my little Alfie! He's had his vaccinations so hopefully he'll be ok

As far as I know the buns were fine when they were vaccinated in May 2013, Mum and 7 kits (accidental litter) had the myxo jab at the time and she hadn't shown signs before yesterday. A couple of the buns have had 'snuffles' symptoms during the last couple of months (not sure if the one affected was one of those). Bun has been seen by the vet, has been moved indoors into the bathroom and is currently still happy to nibble of fresh leaves, is drinking and seems slightly brighter today - they are off to see their usual vet this morning. To my knowledge the manufacturer hasn't been informed - although I don't think you can get single myxo jabs anymore?

Sadly I've heard of at least 3 cases of Myxo in the Maidstone area in the last month or so, although in those cases the buns hadn't been vaccinated.
