Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Noisy breathing

foxy2279

Alpha Buck
This morning i picked up Belle my female to do a health check and have a cuddle. She was by my ear as she likes to have a good look over my shoulder. When i noticed her breathing was noisy.

It sounds like a mix between a blocked nose and a dog sniffing on breathing out. There is no evidence of snot or runny nose. I checked her nose and paws and all looks clean and dry. I called my vet but no appointments except emergency until tomorrow when she's booked in (two vet practice). Was wondering if anyone had any idea's what it could be?

Could be the start of a respiratory tract infection or the result of some inflammation in the nasal passages due to an allergy

Some Rabbits with Dental problems can develop noisy breathing too, if their tooth roots are elongated.

Thank you Jane.

Always nice to have a idea of what the problem could be. Will see what the vet says.
