Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
I'm currently fostering an ill bunny who I plan on adopting when she's better.

Ive been caring for her and her sister on and off for the past two months and unfortunately they went drastically downhill whilst I was on holiday and one had to be pts :(

Jess - the surviving bun - is now back living with me and has a runny bum which I'm putting down to stress. She's seen a vet, which is why shes with me again as she got better last time, and he believes that she just needs some tlc.

Since getting her back to mine ive noticed that she isnt eating her nuggets or hay, but is eating curly kale.
She seems to be quite depressed - which is understandable - but I was wondering if theres anything anybody could suggest doing to help her overcome this?
Im picking some recovery up from the vet tomorrow as she is very very skinny for some unknown reason.

I'd really appreciate any advice anybody has
Thanks

It could also be a teeth issue. I'd get a second opinion from another vet, can you try and fund an exotic specialist or let us known what area you're in and someone on here might be able to recommend a specialist.

I think after two month is you are still seeing issues with weight etc. then the vet needs to do some investigating.

What you are seeing might be a secondary symptom of another problem, parasites, teeth, urine infection etc.

What's her normal diet and what have you tried diet wise whilst you've had her?

Hi, thanks for all the responses, the issue with the vet is that one is very rabbit savvy, but I find the other one juat wants to put them down as soon as they're ill

It gets to me because as im only fostering her at the minute I seem to get her back to perfect health, take her back, thwn she just goes downhill again - hence why I'm keeping her this time :)

Over the past few months shes been treated for a variety of things from cocci to ear mites which have all cleared up now. They've done a couple of tests on her, definately feces, but im unsure as to bloods. Her teeth are in perfect condition :/

Shes currently on Excel junior and dwarf rabbit nuggets, timothy hay, curly kale, broccoli (prety much whatever she wants to eat I'll give her at this stage, she doesnt seem to be touching thw nuggets)

Would you suggest worming her?

Thanks,
Emma & Jess

As she's not keen on eating, feeding whatever she wants it a good plan for now.

Long term, I'd try swapping off the excel, some bunnies do seem to get sticky poops with it. Try the supreme science instead. Again, obviously not whilst she's not eating, but it would be worth trying hay/pellets only for a week and see if it helps, then gradually reintroducing greens keeping a record to see what effects her.

It wouldn't hurt to worm her, just in case if you've ruled other things out.

A probiotic would be another thing to try.

Hi guys, took Jess to the vet yesterday and got some recovery and septrin but it wasnt looking good.
The vet kept her under observation for the day and force fed her (I was in work and didnt want her to be home alone).
Brougjt her home last night and although the runny bum had stopped, she just wasnt herself. She couldnt sit ip on her own or even move, it was heartbreaking. I tried giving some more recovery but she was stubborn as ever and just dribbled it back out, it was clear that losing her sister a few days previous had really took its toll on her.

After cuddling her and keeping her warm for the rest of the evening, she took her last breaths in my arms at 23:20 last night, she is now at Rainbow Bridge with her sister Flo.

Thank you for all the help and advice given.

Rest in peace my beautiful angels, you'll never be forgotten <3 <3

So sorry to here that you have lost Jess. Glad you could be with her at the end.

Thank you everybody for your well wishes, I'm starting to come to terms with it now and I realise she is at peace with her sister and neither of them will have to suffer again xxx
